Integrative Health Services

What is Integrative Health?

A philosophy of care that focuses on the well-being of the whole person; body, mind and spirit. It is also known as complementary and alternative medicine or holistic care, and incorporates a variety of practices to support each person’s wellness. These therapies are not intended to replace standard medical care, but rather are designed to enhance all care provided by supporting each person’s natural ability to heal.

Music Therapy at Nazareth Living Center

Music Therapy is an established health profession that uses music to accomplish therapeutic goals. Research has shown the positive effect that clinical music therapy can have on older adults, and those living in long-term care settings. Laura Myers, MA, MT-BC (board-certified Music Therapist), has been providing music therapy to Nazareth Living Center residents since 2009. She uses music interventions to promote wellness, manage stress, alleviate pain, enhance memory, encourage emotional expression, improve communication, enhance socialization, and improve quality of life.

Residents at Nazareth Living Center receive music therapy services in a variety of ways, including:

  •
  • Theme-based music therapy groups
  • Individual music therapy sessions
  • Drum Circles
  • Chime and vocal choirs
  • Therapeutic music listening programs
  • Music exercise
  • Educational programs

“I am a devoted friend to a resident at Nazareth Living Center. I go to see her 3 times per week most of the time and I attend whatever activities are going on at the time.

I attend Music Therapy session with her each week and have for over 3 years.

In my opinion, these Music Therapy sessions are vital for the residents.

I witness the joy on the faces of those who attend and those who are able, sing along and participate in the activities.

My friend has dementia, as do some of the others. Even as her dementia progresses she continues to join in the singing and usage of musical instruments.

Laura Meyer, the Music Therapist, does such an excellent job with the residents and I highly recommend this activity for all long term care residents.”

Caring for your mind, body and spirit

Healing Touch

Healing Touch is a relaxing, nurturing energy therapy that uses gentle touch to assist in balancing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being. Healing Touch works with your energy field to support your natural ability to heal, is safe for all ages and works in harmony with standard medical care.

The practitioner may gently touch your body or hold their hands slightly over and above your body while you are lying in bed or seated. You will remain fully clothed during the 10-30 minutes session.

The HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program, is offered through Healing Beyond Borders, Educating and Certifying the Healing Touch™ and has been endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) since 1997. All Nazareth Living Center staff providing Healing Touch are trained in Healing Touch

Comfort Massage and Massage Therapy

Comfort massage is a gentle and relaxing massage provided by using light to very light touch. Comfort massage may be done on the hands, feet, neck or back. Massage oil, with or without the addition of essentail oils may be used.

Nazareth Living Center also has contracts with therapeutic massage therapists. If you are interested in learning more, speak with our staff.

Spiritual Nourishment

Our campus enjoys meditation and worship space in every building and level of care. Many of our residents enjoy daily mass in our beautiful chapel. Our spiritual care staff provides comfort to families and residents and employees during times of need. We do all of these things because we truly care about you.

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet came to the United States from France in 1836 to continue their ministry of caring service with the help of local lay women and religious leaders. This tradition of faithful collaboration continues today, bringing together people with like values to achieve common goals. The loving spirit that is created by coming together in gentleness, peace and joy is celebrated daily.

Nazareth Living Center offers pastoral care to everyone. The needs of the spirit are nourished together through discussion, reading and reflection. It is this tradition of faith that brings a special quality felt by everyone who enters Nazareth … a feeling of comfort and peace.

The Village independent living has a meditation room for all to use to find balance and peace.

Family members very well treated

Both Mother-in-law and sister were and are residents of Nazareth both were treated very well in rehab and as residents. Facilities are very well taken care of, my sister is very happy about the food. Staff has always been friendly and courteous when we visit.
