Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Three key words that describe Nazareth Living Center and The Village at Nazareth are choice, value and security.

The Village at Nazareth is our senior independent living apartment home building open since 2013 on the Nazareth Living Center campus.
The current Village and recently completed expansion at Nazareth features 100 apartment homes in one bedroom, one bedroom deluxe and two bedroom designs.

Nazareth Living Center is the health care portion of the community, now offering assisted living, memory care, long-term nursing care, and short-term skilled
nursing (also known as short stay) and skilled rehabilitation in a licensed nursing home.

Nazareth Living Center and The Village at Nazareth are owned and operated by our ministry partners: Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and Benedictine. Both partners are not-for-profit, Catholic organizations with separate volunteer Boards of Directors.

A retirement community with a continuum of care, also known as life plan, offers residential accommodations for older adults at many service levels – independent living, common areas and community areas for socializing and on-site healthcare with assisted living, memory support care, long-term care and skilled nursing and skilled rehabilitation. The beauty of this concept is best illustrated if and when residents should require assistance. As their needs change, residents are secure in the knowledge that high-quality supportive services and care are available, when needed, in an attractive, professionally staffed on-site environment.

The entire campus is also host to common areas and amenities including dining, garden, patios and walking paths for all residents.

Your busy, active lifestyle is actually one of the best reasons for choosing The Village at Nazareth right now. When you move to The Village at Nazareth, there will be no more time-consuming chores of home maintenance and yard upkeep. You’ll be free to do just want you want to do. Those who have already chosen The Village at Nazareth consistently tell us that security – both financial and health – and freedom were two of the most important factors in their decision to make a reservation. And our current depositors represent a delightfully diverse, talented and friendly group of individuals—people who enjoy travel, volunteering, time with family, continuing careers and many other interests.

The Daily and Monthly Service Fees are subject to change. The Monthly Service Fees are reviewed annually by management and may be adjusted based on actual operating costs. The fees are based on the actual costs of the services, staffing, operations, depreciation and the operating costs of the community. The community will maintain its costs at the lowest feasible rate consistent with sound financial practices. Notification of any increase in the Monthly Service Fee is given to all residents no less than 30 days in advance.

When referring to retirement living communities, Independent Living describes a house or apartment home in an age-restricted community setting designed for seniors who are able to manage their homes and daily activities without supervision or medical assistance. Independent living can be offered as a senior apartment in a stand-alone building, or as part of a larger community with a wide range of services, including access to a continuum of health care should the resident ever have need to access those services in the future. Independent Living Apartment Homes are available at Nazareth Living Center.  The apartment home portion of the community is named The Village at Nazareth Independent Living.

Assisted Living offers a middle ground between independent living and nursing care. Assisted living is a good choice for those who do not require the extensive medical care provided in nursing care but are not able to manage living on their own. Staff is available to provide 24-hour comprehensive assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as dressing, grooming, eating, mobility and hygiene. A variety of activities and social events, as well as transportation, cleaning and laundry services, are also typical features of assisted living. Assisted living may be available as a stand-alone community or as part of a continuum of care.  For information on our Assisted Living program at the St Jospeh Manor, please see Assisted Living

Alzheimer’s Disease is a specific form of memory impairment, and Nazareth Living Center is pleased to offer special secured care for those with many types of memory impairing illnesses on the first floor of the St. Joseph Manor. For information on our Memory Care program at the St Joseph Manor, please see Memory Care.

Long term or skilled nursing care is comprised of two service levels and can be moderate to long-term in duration. Intermediate Nursing Care is less intensive than skilled care and is appropriate for individuals who do not need 24-hour attention. Custodial Nursing Care is appropriate once specific technical personnel are not needed for daily care, but the individual is not likely to make further significant improvement. For information on our skilled/long-term care please see Skilled Nursing Care page .

A Community with a Continuum of Care allows seniors the ability to “age in place” by providing, in addition to an independent living residence, access to some or all of the health care services described above such as assisted living, various levels of nursing care, and rehabilitation, usually on the same property.  Residents of independent living have the opportunity (and often a priority position, as is the case at The Village at Nazareth) to apply for admission to the health care residences if their needs change in the future.  In addition, communities with a continuum typically provide independent living residents with a service package designed to provide a carefree lifestyle. Transportation, activities, interior and exterior maintenance, flexible dining services and utilities are just a few of the services available at many communities offering a continuum.

Skilled rehabilitation program is prescribed by a physician and may be performed by or under the supervision of technical personnel, such as a Registered Nurse (RN), a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a physical therapist. It is typically a temporary or short-term situation, and skilled rehabilitation is a service level eligible for Medicare participation under specific circumstances. Nazareth’s skilled rehabilitation rooms are in the Carondelet Hall section of McGovern Commons. For information on our skilled rehabilitation program, please see our Rehabilitation Page.

We have experienced, caring and compassionate staff that will walk you through the application process. We partner with you and your medical professionals to get the required medical and financial information. The first step in becoming a resident at Nazareth is to visit our beautiful campus. The Veteran’s Aid and Attendance program may be available to pay for assisted living or long-term nursing care for individuals who served during a time of war (or their spouse). This pension is designed for veterans who require assistance with their activities of daily living. Eligible veterans can receive a monthly pension from the Veterans Administration of up to $26,034 a year. Contact the VA website to learn more about this benefit.

Five stars for Nazareth Living Center

From my perspective, I felt the staff at Nazareth Living Center took good care of my Mom–and she was recovering even quicker than expected. She was in their rehabilitation unit, and the staff there was friendly and helpful, and the facilities were very clean. My mom is doing well and feeling like herself now.
