Nazareth Ministry Partners
Nazareth Living Center’s history begins with the Order of the Sisters of St. Joseph who came to St. Louis from France in 1836 at the invitation of St. Louis Bishop Joseph Rosati. Originally asked to establish a school for the deaf, the sisters soon became engaged in a wide variety of needed services: health care, education at all levels, pastoral care, child care, advocacy for the poor, counseling, social services, and parish ministry. That order of nuns is known today as the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
In 1872, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet began their mission at Nazareth as a home for retired and infirm sisters. In 1992, the Sisters expanded their mission beyond caring for retired sisters to the broader community of laypeople to meet the growing need for quality elder care services.
To this day, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet remain active in the Nazareth Community. The sisters reside at every level of the campus alongside laypeople and they continue to serve others as is their tradition.

My experience at Nazareth is excellent
I love this place! I came out of a big home and there was always something that needed to be repaired, but here at Nazareth Living Center there is none of that. I have such a free mind here and I just call and get help with anything that needs to be done. The staff is very responsive, and there’s someone at the concierge desk all of the time.
As far as entertainment, Mondays and Tuesdays are busy with group activities such as Bingo and Left, Center, Right; they also show movies and you can sign up at the concierge’s desk to go see them. I also think the food is very good. Yesterday I had a tuna fish casserole that I thought was excellent. There are also stuffed green peppers and all different kinds of foods. There’s a wide selection here that takes care of a lot of special diets and needs.
In terms of cleanliness, I think it is very good. They do house cleaning twice per month. I like my apartment very much and get lots of compliments. The Holy Spirit led me here and I couldn’t be happier.
